Strategic Communication Manager

The SecDev Foundation (SDF) is seeking a Manager of Strategic Communication. The ideal candidate will be a motivated, self-starter with ample creativity and an ability to problem solve. We pride ourselves on being a bit extraordinary – and seek candidates who are equally as unique. The successful candidate will join a small, but talented existing communication team including a web developer and multimedia designer.

Position Mission

  • To enable the world to understand the innovative and positive impact of SecDev Foundation’s work, through the effective communication of project successes and the differences made in the lives of beneficiaries.
  • To help all Foundation projects pursue excellence in their communicative outcomes .

Main Duties Include

  • Provide creative direction and guidance on communication strategies and outreach campaigns for our operational projects in North America, SouthEast Asia, MENA, and the former Soviet Space, and assist with evaluation of outcomes;
  • Create and coordinate content (written, and visual with support from in-house comms team) to effectively communicate the important impacts of Foundation projects and assist with fundraising;
  • Coordinate the production process for print, online, audiovisual and multimedia material supporting projects;
  • Manage the content production, posting to and promotion of the SDF website;
  • Manage brand social media channels, creating content and posting to them;
  • Provide oversight and advice on measurements and evaluation for communication strategies (including using social network indicators and Google Analytics);
  • Prepare promotional SDF products such as a regular newsletter and contribute to the development of the annual report;
  • Manage/advise on communication strategies for large public events (in Canada and abroad);
  • Writing and editing of material as required.

Experience

  • Strong writing and online communication skills are a must
  • 5+ years of experience working in strategic communication or related field
  • Experience working in a non-profit environment is an asset
  • Knowledge of Google Analytics, Social Network Insights (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram)
  • Experience using content management tools such as MailChimp and WordPress
  • Evidence-based proof of excellence in team-work

Many extra brownie points will go to any candidate who also has experience in creating:

  • adult-focused learning material on topics such as digital safety;
  • effective presentations of complex data (infographics)
